The Dominican Lay Associates - Holy Angels

By: Luz Silva

The Dominican Lay associates [DLA] is a group of men and women, who joined the DominicanSisters of the Most Holy Rosary, Holy Angels' convent, at 20 Reiner Street Colma, Ca. 94014, to help the Dominican Sisters perform some tasks like:

•  Pray for, and visit the sick and infirm, and to pray the Rosary with them or for them and their intentions.

•  Weekly House-to-House visit of the image of Our Lady of Fatima with prayers and recitation of the Holy Rosary.

•  Daily Prayer of the shorter Christian Prayer Book and Bible by DLA members for their spiritual growth

•  Help the Holy Angels church to raise needed funds for its own projects/activities

•  Conduct Garage Sales at the guidance and help of the Sisters

•  Go with the Sisters for caroling activities during the Christmas Holidays

•  Request issuance of donation checks for God's House of Aloha, in lieu of Birthday Gifts from Celebrants' Guests.

The Christmas caroling is the best in terms of Funds Raised.   However, completion of God's House of Aloha depends largely on the kind and generous response of donors, so everyone is welcome!

The DLA was the brainchild of Sister Leonarda Montealto, O.P. Director of the Holy Angels School, and Sister Candelaria Perania, O.P., now with St. Charles School.   Sister Benedicta, with Sister Otelia, preside at the monthly meeting every second Sunday from 9:30 to 11:00 A.M. at the Holy angels' Convent.

The DLA group has 18 members now.   During the LDA meeting last January 9, 2005, Luz Silva suggested and the majority agreed that each members pursue an easy Saving Scheme, of putting a quarter or two quarter or even more depending on ones resources in a box or bowl daily, which is estimated to raise $4,000.00 more or less a year, savings of all members put together, for God's House of Aloha.

It is a joy being with the Dominican Sisters, praying with them and socializing with them.   We look forward for our monthly meeting where we pray together at the convent and share our thoughts on how to support the Dominican Sisters.   The Sisters facilitate retreats and talks for us for our spiritual growth.   We are blessed to be a member of this community as we learn more about the Sisters and the life of St. Dominic, St. Catherine and Mother Rosario, the foundress of the congregation.   It was also a joy to join with other members of the Dominican Lay Associates from the other convents from St. Finn Barr and St. Charles on certain occasions.    It is our hope and our prayer to support this group and think of more ways to raise more funds for our project, God's House of Aloha.

It is joy and a blessing being a member of the Dominican Lay Associates as a means of serving the Lord and making our Blessed Mother happy.
